3 Years Old

Raya,

Yesterday, you turned 3 years old.  Wow- how time has flown.  You are a rambunctious little girl.  You are a preschooler-- about to start a new school in just a couple short weeks.  You are the light of our little world.

You are talking a lot more these days, which is wonderful.  You are still a horrible eater, but somehow manage to keep growing like a weed.  You have a special place in your heart for "Halloween" ("Nightmare Before Christmas"), "The Lorax," "Rango," and currently "Shaun the Sheep."  You love to dance & are starting to sing.

We are still suffering through night terrors, but we are making it work.  I just wish you would start STTN again.

Daddy and I love you so much.  You are such a special person.  You are your unique self.  Blonde hair, blue eyes, tall & lanky (weighing only about 27-28lbs and at least 36" tall) and you are all ours.  You love to read, make art projects & you are especially excited for the holidays this year.  I can't wait to share this magical time of year with you once again.

Keep on being you.

Love,
Mommy

Two Years Old

Raya is two years old (plus a few weeks).  We had a wonderful "Dora the Explorer" party in the backyard.  It was a beautiful day filled with family and friends.  She is growing up so quickly.

At her 2 year check-up, Raya weighed 24lbs, 8.5oz (back to the 11% ! ) and was 35" tall.  Her BMI fell off of the charts because she is so tall and skinny.  She is speaking more, but that is an area we are working on.  She builds towers with her mega blocks, like to use her toy broom to "sweep" the floor & ride on like a witch.

She has all but 2 of her teeth.  We are working on cutting the upper "two year" molars.  Then- teething will be a distant memory.  I have been waiting for this day to come.

Raya is quite the climber.  She saumer salts on the floor.  She opens doors (& locks people outside).  She is the joy of our life.

Love you.

20 Months

Wow.  It's been like 3.5 months since I last updated.  (Oops.)  I guess saying that we are busy is kind of like the understatement of the year.  I'm still working both jobs.  Kyle is off contract for the summer- so he is being a SAHD for the next 6 weeks or so.

Raya has been making all sorts of developmental strides lately.  So, here we go:

-Her vocabulary is really starting to grow.  Besides hi, daddy, doggy, huh?, oooh!, etc., we have now added new "regular" words- Elmo, Dora, backpack, star, etc.  She also says a lot of random words, but she won't say them regularly.

-Raya has her first potty chair.  She is starting to sit on it, but still with her clothes & diaper on.  We just want her to get comfortable with the idea of sitting & staying still.  (We're still working on that second part.)

-We don't have a high chair at the kitchen table anymore!  She would much rather sit like a big girl in a chair.  Most of the time, she does well.  Until she wants to climb down and feed the doggy!!!.  (She usually says "doggy" like it's dawwgy.  Since when do we have a southern belle?)

-Raya listens to us better... most the time.  If we tell her it's "jammies time" before bedtime, she will walk right back to her room & open up her dresser drawer.  She is also learning to do "arms up" & clap.  Now, my kid claps all of the time & has since she was like 9 months old.  But, instead of just clapping when we do, she can clap on demand.

-We are starting to get the occassional toddler tantrum.  Like before bed some nights- she is kicking & screaming because she doesn't want to go to sleep.

-She gives hugs & kisses all of the time.  Melts my heart.

-She also loves to climb into our bed (which is a feat in and of itself), pulls the blankets up to tuck herself in & grabs the remote.  She will sit there, propped up against the pillows, with a giant grin on her face.  Somedays, I think that she thinks she's as old as we are.

Life is fun these days.  I just wish that I could get her to eat better.  She eats a ton of food, just not usually healthy stuff.  She loves any fruit, chicken nuggets, mac n cheese, pizza, chips, etc.  We don't get a whole lot of veggies in her, besides her veggie crackers.  Oy.  Speaking of eating- we have her weight check on Tuesday.  She didn't really gain much weight at her 18 month check up.  The Dr. isn't worried, but didn't want to wait until her 2 year check up to update.  I'm not worried- my kid eats, she just doesn't know how to sit still.  What toddler does?

I can put her hair into a ponytail & pigtails.  I don't bend over to hold her hand anymore.  Raya loves drawing & coloring.  She plays "make believe" now with her toys.  She's growing up.

16.5 months

Apparently I haven't blogged in like 1.5 months.  Oops.  I guess this whole "raising a toddler & working 2 jobs" gig is kicking my butt draining my body.

Raya is now above 20lbs.  I don't even have to bend over anymore to hold her hand and walk next to her.  She is running around, climbing on everything, chattering up a (jibberish) storm.

She still only has about 10 words, but she is constantly talking.

She can show us where her eyes are & blow kisses (when she's focused... this one is a new party trick).

Raya has 14 teeth.... soon to be 16, once her top canines make their appearance.

She is, by far, the pickiest eater I have ever seen... even in a toddler.

She sleeps from 8pm-7am on a regular night.  In fact, when it's bedtime, she will pick up her blankie & walk towards her room, waiting for us to follow.

She loves to wear her princess tiara & necklace.  She also loves to take them off, put them on, take them off, put them on, etc, etc, etc.  She also loves to sit in her wagon.  (See below.)

She is becoming a big girl.

I love you.

Happy New Year!

May everyone's 2011 bring them everything they have hoped for!  2010 was an interesting year for us.  Thankfully, life with Raya is now as wonderful as it will ever be.  This is the stuff that makes motherhood the best job of all.  Seeing your child enjoying life is simply priceless.

Merry Christmas!

So, today is Christmas Eve eve.  I can't help but well up from all of the excitement to take place with our family in these next few days!  Raya is such a pleasant little girl these days.  I think that her new found freedom from walking independently was just what she needed.  Also, the fact that all of her molars are finally cut through helps.  She absolutely loves the Christmas tree & like touching the presents underneath.  She is oh so very curious about everything and she is learning a gentle touch (finally).  For example, she now pets the dog & cats, instead of yanking their fur out.  Raya is also talking so.much.  Most of the time it is just babble, but she is constantly talking to someone/something.

We get to spend a lot of time with our families this weekend, also.  I am so looking forward to some quality time!  I have been working so much between both jobs lately, that I have missed out on things.  I am taking this weekend as my time to make up for it!

Happy holidays!

Walking!

So, Raya finally decided that she can walk on her own.  After months of dragging us around the house, steering us in her choosen direction, she walked... willingly... on her own a few times last night.  Sure, she has walked to me on her own in the past.  But, it was always when we let go & made her walk.  That always resulted in a screaming, snotty child wailing her lungs out while she stumbled over to me all bleary-eyed.  But, she is now walking some on her own accord... dry eyes & all.

I'm so proud.  It only took 14 months, but she did it all on her own.  I guess I really do have an independent, opinionated child.
